1. Overview
Track Impulse collects minimal data and only what is necessary to provide the service. We do not sell your data, serve ads, or share your information with third parties except as described in this policy.
This policy applies to the Track Impulse website (track-impulse.com), the desktop application, and all associated backend services.
2. What we collect and why
| Data | Why we collect it | Consent |
|---|---|---|
| Usage telemetry | App version, which sim is connected, event type (launch, connect, disconnect), and a hashed device identifier so we can distinguish unique installations from repeat events. | Opt-in. You are asked on first launch and can change your choice at any time in Settings. |
| Email address | Account creation, verification, and licence delivery. | Required for account. |
| Machine ID | A hashed device identifier used solely to enforce the 3-machine licence limit. Not linked to any personal identifier beyond your account. | Functional requirement. Sent only during licence validation. |
| Licence validation logs | Validating active access and detecting abuse. Logs are automatically deleted after 90 days. | Functional requirement. |
| Payment data | Subscription billing. We never see or store card details. All payment data is handled entirely by Paddle. | Required for purchase. |
| Website analytics | Aggregate traffic metrics via Cloudflare. No cookies, no individual tracking. | Passive, anonymised. |
3. Usage telemetry
When you opt in, the Track Impulse desktop application sends usage pings to help us understand which simulators are being used and how often the app is launched. Each ping contains the following fields:
- App version (e.g. 0.6.111)
- Sim name (e.g. iRacing, ACC, AC, LMU, AC EVO, ACR)
- Event type (launch, sim connect, sim disconnect)
- Hashed device identifier (the same one used for licence validation)
Beyond the four fields above, telemetry does not include your licence token, IP address, lap times, in-sim telemetry, car or track names, controller inputs, or any application settings.
4. Licence validation
When the application starts, it contacts our server to validate your licence. This request includes your email address and a hashed machine identifier. The machine ID is used to enforce the 3-machine limit per licence. If you have opted in to telemetry, the same hashed identifier is also included in usage pings to deduplicate event counts. It is not shared with any third party. Licence validation itself is a functional requirement and does not require separate consent.
5. How we use your data
- To create and manage your Track Impulse account
- To send your verification link and account-related emails
- To validate your licence on application launch
- To enforce the 3-machine limit per licence
- To understand aggregate usage patterns (telemetry, if you opted in)
- To contact you about service changes or the end of the beta period
We do not use your data for marketing to third parties, advertising, or profiling.
6. What we do not collect
The desktop application does not collect or transmit in-sim telemetry (lap times, tyre temps, controller inputs, car or track names), nor any gameplay or replay data. All haptic processing happens locally on your machine. There are no tracking cookies on this website and no third-party advertising scripts.
7. Third-party processors
We use a small number of sub-processors to deliver the service. Each handles only the minimum data required for its function:
- Cloud database and backend functions - account records, licence validation, and telemetry storage. Data is hosted in Sydney, Australia.
- Transactional email provider - delivers verification and account-related emails only. We do not send marketing emails through this service.
- Paddle - payment processing and subscription management. Paddle acts as our Merchant of Record, meaning they handle all card details and billing directly. Track Impulse never receives or stores your payment information. Paddle privacy policy.
- Cloudflare - website hosting, CDN, and aggregate analytics. Cloudflare privacy policy.
A full list of named sub-processors is available on request by emailing support@track-impulse.com. We do not share your data with any other third parties.
8. Data retention
- Account data (email, machine IDs, licence status) is retained while your account is active and for 12 months after a deletion request
- Validation logs are automatically deleted after 90 days
- Usage telemetry is retained indefinitely
- If you request account deletion, we will remove your personal data within 30 days
9. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, email support@track-impulse.com. We will respond within 30 days.
10. Security
Licence data stored on your machine is obfuscated and bound to the specific device. All data in transit uses TLS. We do not store passwords. Access to backend systems is restricted to the service account and the operator.
11. Children
Track Impulse is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
12. Australian Privacy Act
We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. If you have a complaint about our handling of your personal information, contact us first. If unresolved, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify registered users by email of material changes. The effective date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
